Dambulla Sixers sign Sahibzada Farhan as ‘Icon Player’ for LPL 2026

Lankan Premier League (LPL) franchise Dambulla Sixers have roped in Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan for the upcoming season. The top-order batter has been named the franchise’s “Icon Player” ahead of the draft, set to take place on June 1, 2026.

Farhan coming off record-breaking T20 World Cup

Farhan ended the recent T20 World Cup as the highest run-scorer, which included two centuries, the most by any batter in a single edition. Additionally, his tally of 383 runs was the highest by any batter in a single edition of the T20 World Cup, going past Virat Kohli’s 319 runs.

Following the World Cup, the right-handed batter also had a decent Pakistan Super League (PSL) campaign, where he represented Multan Sultans. He scored 380 runs in 10 matches at an average of 42.22 and a strike rate of 166.

Farhan’s T20 career

Besides playing six seasons in the PSL, Farhan also featured in his maiden Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season last year. Overall, he has played 46 T20Is for Pakistan, scoring at an average of 30 with a strike rate of 136. While these numbers may not fully encapsulate the sort of batter he is, especially considering how much his career trajectory has improved recently.

The LPL will begin on July 17 and run until August 8. Besides the Dambulla-based side, Colombo Strikers, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy Falcons are the other franchises in the competition.
