Canada Joins Elite List for ICC T20 World Cup 2026 After Dominant Qualifier Run
The buzz around the England vs India Test series is huge right now, but in just eight months, all eyes will be on something even bigger. That’s when the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 kicks off, with India and Sri Lanka coming together to host the tournament. Fans around the world will be glued to their screens for the action.
As the build-up to the big event continues, 13 out of the 20 teams have now confirmed their place. The latest team to qualify is Canada, which booked its spot after a strong performance at the Americas Regional Final, which was held in their backyard.
Canada Secures World Cup Spot with Dominant Americas Qualifier Campaign
Canada wrapped up a strong campaign in the Americas Qualifier with a big win over the Bahamas. Bowling first, they bowled out the Bahamas for just 57 runs. Kaleem Sana and Shivam Sharma both took three wickets each to lead the attack. In reply, Dilpreet Bajwa came out swinging, smashing 36 runs off just 14 balls. Canada chased down the target in only 5.3 overs, sealing their spot in the tournament in the subcontinent.
Led by Nicholas Kirton, Canada went unbeaten in all five of their matches in the Regional Final. They delivered solid, all-round performances to comfortably beat Bermuda, the Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas.
This will be the second time Canada plays in a World Cup event in India. They were one of the 14 teams to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2011, which was jointly held in India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. They won just one out of their six league games. Also in 2024, Canada qualified for their first-ever T20 World Cup in the Americas. They won a game against Ireland, but the match against India was abandoned due to rain, ruling them out of the tournament.
