Cameron Green Pulls Out of Bangladesh T20Is, Boost for Delhi-Born Nikhil Chaudhary

Cameron Green Pulls Out of Bangladesh T20Is, Boost for Delhi-Born Nikhil ChaudharyAustralia have suffered a setback ahead of their three-match T20I series against Bangladesh, with all-rounder Cameron Green withdrawing from the tour. The decision comes shortly after Australia narrowly avoided an ODI series whitewash, thanks largely to Cooper Connolly's match-winning 149 in the final game. Green's absence is expected to weaken Australia's balance in the shortest format.

According to reports from Code Sports, the 27-year-old has returned home to carefully manage his workload ahead of a busy Test schedule. Australia begin a crucial red-ball season with a home Test against Bangladesh on August 13, and team management are keen to keep Green fresh for the challenges ahead. Cricket Australia has not named a replacement, with Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Hardie already available as seam-bowling all-round options in the squad.

Mitchell Marsh Returns but Australia's Balance Under Pressure

While Marsh returns to captain the side after missing the ODI series through injury, he is no longer bowling regularly due to ongoing fitness concerns. This means Australia's all-round depth could be tested during the Bangladesh series, especially on spin-friendly conditions where flexibility in team combinations often proves valuable.

Green's withdrawal has significantly boosted the chances of Delhi-born all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary making his international debut. The Hobart Hurricanes star was recently added to Australia's T20I squad and could become the first Indian-born male cricketer to represent Australia in more than 60 years. A powerful middle-order batter who can also bowl leg-spin, Chaudhary offers a useful option in Bangladesh conditions.

Australia will also be strengthened by the return of Travis Head, who was rested after IPL 2026, and Josh Inglis, Tim David and Adam Zampa remain key figures in the T20I setup. With Green unavailable, competition for a middle-order spot has eased, potentially opening the door for Chaudhary to make an immediate impact on the international stage.

Green's withdrawal caps a mixed period for the all-rounder. During IPL 2026 with Kolkata Knight Riders, he scored 322 runs at a strike rate of 145.70 and picked up seven wickets. However, his international T20 form has been modest, managing only 117 runs and two wickets in seven matches this year. He did show signs of improvement in the ODI series against Bangladesh, scoring 104 runs in three innings, including an unbeaten half-century.

With Australia scheduled to play around 15 Test matches before the next World Test Championship final, preserving Green's fitness has become a priority. Given his importance across all formats, the selectors appear unwilling to take any risks, even if it means weakening the squad for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh.
