Australia make an addition to the squad for Pakistan ODIs

by mishaalmubarak

Australia have made a late addition to their squad, which will face Pakistan in a three-match ODI series starting May 30. The visitors have called in batting all-rounder Cooper Connolly after their captain Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the tour.

Marsh, who picked up an ankle injury during the Indian Premier League, will stay in Perth, where he will be further assessed and treated. The regular Australian captain also missed his final game of the IPL, where he was representing Lucknow Super Giants, due to the same reason.

In his absence, wicketkeeper batter Josh Inglis will lead the side in the ODI series. Inglis has previously captained the side on four occasions, all of which came against Pakistan.

Connolly’s ODI career

Connolly has only eight ODI games under his belt, having made his debut in the format in September 2024. Contributing in only five of those, the all-rounder has 94 runs and 8 wickets in his ODI career so far.

He comes off a spectacular Indian Premier League season where he represented Punjab Kings. Across 13 innings, Connolly scored 491 runs at an average of 44.63 and a strike rate of 163.

Updated Australia squad for ODI series:

Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis (c/wk), Matthew Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Riley Meredith, Ollie Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Tanveer Sangha, Liam Scott, Matt Short, Billy Stanlake, Cooper Connolly and Adam Zampa.
