Ajit Agarkar Eyes Extension as India Chief Selector Until 2027 World Cup, BCCI Response Awaited
Ajit Agarkar, a former cricketer from India, is asked for permission from the BCCI to stay as India’s chief selector until the ODI World Cup in 2027. Ajit Agarkar who took this role in 2023 and was extended a one-year extension until IPL 2025. Now, after India’s success, he is interested to stay on for a longer period.

According to reports, the BCCI received his request. The BCCI might agree to his proposal since there are not many strong candidates available to take on the role. There is a former cricketer from the West Zone who might be considered for the role, but nothing is confirmed.
Since July 2023, Agarkar has been doing a very good job. Under his leadership, India won the T20 World Cup 2024, Champions Trophy 2025, and T20 World Cup 2026. The team also reached the final in the ODI World Cup 2023.

BCCI official said that,
“Under his tenure the Indian team had won titles and had seen transition (of the Tests and T20) too. The BCCI had extended his contract till June 2026 and he had accepted the offer a few months back,”
Last year, his contract was extended until June 2026 by the BCCI. He agreed to this. According to a BCCI official, this was because India was winning trophies and also building a new team in Tests and T20 cricket.
