Industry

IPL is a key supplier of IT systems and services to some of the UK's largest industrial and manufacturing companies. Having huge international footprints, these organisations maintain extraordinarily large and varied IT infrastructures, where information flows and reporting systems are vital to their existence.

IPL develops systems and provides vital business consultancy to help keep these enterprises working efficiently. Our Business Consulting practice has facilitated business change through the provision of BPM and information management services. Our Solution Delivery experience ranges from developing, supplying and maintaining solutions such as data warehouses, corporate MIS systems, regulatory reporting systems, and enterprise-wide master data repository and project resources, asset management and process control systems. All these systems are typically rolled out across very large geographies.

IPL is also very experienced in developing complex, software-intensive communications and control systems for instrument, device and equipment manufacturers. Examples of IPL's work here include airborne control systems and avionics, military communications and mission planning, covert radio, crypto key management, civil mobile communications equipment, and medical instrumentation.

All our customers share one key characteristic: the need for exceptionally reliable, professionally engineered systems that work first time and provide years of reliable service. And this is why they come to IPL. The outstanding quality of IPL's products and services is a key differentiator which has formed the basis of many successful, long-term customer relationships.

Mobile Applications

Having worked in the mobile telecoms industry for over 20 years we have an extraordinary grounding in mobile technologies and mobile data. Please see our Telecoms, Broadcast & Media pages. This coupled with a wealth of experience in developing applications for PDAs and hand-held devices, GIS and mapping technologies, and many years of realising back office database systems means that IPL has all the right credentials to be your partner of choice for end-to-end mobile application development.

Database Applications

IPL has had a long history of developing enterprise-scale database applications supporting complex business processes. Our value is in delivering systems and services that really do live up to our clients' high expectations.

We have experience of using all of the most common database platforms along with a wide range of tools to support activities such as data modelling, ETL, data migration, business reporting, etc.

Our work includes the development of data warehouses, MIS systems, a corporate models repository, a database to store and distribute secret cryptographic keys, near real-time databases for mobile subscriber information, databases for managing corporate equipment assets, a database to store NHS Trust clinical coding data, and many others. IPL has also developed client applications (many using web technologies) that interface with complex existing back office systems and assisted in data migration projects involving millions of sensitive customer account records.

GIS and Geospatial Visualisation

Increasingly there is a widespread expectation that geospatial information be integrated with accurate maps, and other imagery, in a readily useable and interactive manner.IPL has the domain knowledge, technological experience and products to bring GIS data and visualisation together successfully.

For example, IPL has significant experience of numerous high-end Geographical Information System (GIS) and mapping technologies, including MapInfo's MapXtreme and MapLink from Tenet Technology, as well as AJAX-based toolkits, such as Google Maps & Microsoft Virtual Earth.

In addition we have successfully integrated a set of open source tools to provide a thin-client, web-based map display solution called IP Map. A browser client and open-source server software stack displays “slippy” mapping from various sources (including Google Maps to and Ordnance Survey) along with overlaid geospatial data. It provides a very economical and competitive alternative to formal GIS systems.

IPL has also developed a number of systems for clients in the public and private sectors. These systems aim to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their users by presenting the relevant information in a clear and comprehensible manner.

Information Management

Information management in one shape or form has been around since the 1950s, but never before has it had such an important role to play in formulating effective IT strategies. An organisation with an effective information management strategy will operate more efficiently, with less duplication of effort and fewer errors. Systems re-use can generate substantial cost savings. Precise, timely and consistent data will provide better financial control. It can also create competitive advantage, allowing an organisation to react more swiftly and decisively to emerging market situations, and to reduce the burden of ever increasing legislative compliance requirements.

IPL's information management practice can help organisations realise the benefits of an effective Information Management strategy. Having worked with some of the world's largest multi-national businesses, our experienced consultants are uniquely placed to assist your business in realising the benefits of data governance.

High Integrity Software

IPL's traditional competency is in the development of high-integrity systems for embedded environments, many conforming to SIL or military standards. Such systems require rigorous engineering processes to ensure that they behave as expected, first time, every time. IPL's quality assurance process guarantees that such systems are fit-for-purpose and has been used successfully for the development of systems for in-flight refuelling, mission planning, covert radios, medical instruments, air traffic control and active traffic management as well as many others.
