Sanjay Manjrekar Analyzes Shubman Gill's Technical Issues Against Bowlers
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has shed light on the technical flaws affecting Shubman Gill's game. He highlighted that Gill's tendency to play outside the line of the ball has been detrimental to his performance against both spinners and fast bowlers.
“He struggles with this issue against both types of bowlers. His front pad often aligns incorrectly, leading him to play outside the line, which has resulted in dismissals on multiple occasions,” Manjrekar remarked during his analysis on ESPNcricinfo.
Manjrekar also expressed concern over Virat Kohli’s surprising dismissal in the first innings of the second Test, where he misjudged a full toss from Mitchell Santner, scoring only one run.
“It was worrying to see Virat misread the length of the delivery. He tends to push forward against balls that aren’t full, which affects his reaction to the length. While he usually excels against spin, this time he failed to gauge the pitch correctly, causing him to miss a sweep shot. The fact that he couldn’t read the ball is a bigger concern for me than the choice of shot,” he added.
Despite Kohli scoring 70 runs in the second innings of the opening Test, he has struggled to find his form in the longer format of the game consistently.
