Nitish Reddy Makes History as First Player from Andhra Pradesh Retained in IPL
Sunrisers Hyderabad announced the retention of all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy as their fifth capped player for IPL 2025, marking a significant milestone as he becomes the first cricketer from Andhra Pradesh to be retained in the league. Reddy expressed gratitude to the franchise for their early backing, emphasizing his commitment to repay their trust. Acquired for INR 20 lakh prior to the 2023 season, Reddy shone in IPL 2024, earning the Emerging Player of the Season title with 303 runs at a strike rate of 143 and three wickets. His retention at INR 6 crore represents a staggering 2900% increase in his salary.
"Proudly representing my region as a Telugu speaker while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad is an honor. People in Hyderabad appreciate that a Telugu player contributed significantly to the team's success in reaching the finals in IPL 2024," Reddy stated in an exclusive interview with IANS from Mackay, Australia, where India A is currently competing against Australia A.
"The price tag isn't my focus; my goal is to perform and help the team succeed. I am committed to repaying the faith Sunrisers Hyderabad has shown in me," he added.
