IPL 2025 Auction: Key Details and What to Expect
The IPL 2025 auction is scheduled for November 24 and 25 and will be hosted in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This marks only the second time the auction has been held outside India, with the previous one in 2024 taking place in Dubai. While the specific timings have not been announced, it's notable that the auction coincides with the Australia vs India Test match in Perth.
This year's event is labeled a 'mega auction' because, every three years, IPL teams are required to undergo significant changes. Franchises can retain only up to six players, compelling them to largely reconstruct their squads. Unlike the annual mini auctions, which last just one day, the mega auction spans two days due to the larger pool of players available for bidding.
For the IPL 2025 auction, 1574 players have registered initially. However, this list will be shortened following consultations between the IPL and the franchises, and the final lineup will feature top players from both India and abroad.
There has been no confirmation yet on the presence of a marquee set of players, a feature of the 2018 and 2022 mega auctions, but it's anticipated that the IPL will begin the auction with high-profile players.
