Eden Gardens to Honor Jhulan Goswami with Dedicated Stand in January

In a landmark move celebrating one of cricket's most illustrious careers, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has announced that a stand at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata will be named after Jhulan Goswami, the former Indian and Bengal fast bowler. This tribute is set to be unveiled during the India-England men's T20 International on January 22, marking a significant moment in women's cricket history.

Jhulan Goswami, whose career statistics are a testament to her exceptional skill and dedication, expressed her astonishment and gratitude at this honor. "I never imagined something like this would come to fruition. I would definitely love to watch a match from there," Goswami commented, reflecting on the monumental nature of this recognition. "For any cricketer, the ultimate dream is to represent her district, state, or country, but receiving an honor like this is truly monumental."

Goswami's career is adorned with remarkable achievements. She concluded her international journey with 44 wickets in 12 Tests, a record-breaking 255 wickets in 204 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and 56 wickets in 68 T20 Internationals (T20Is). Her total of 355 wickets in women's international cricket remains unmatched, securing her legacy as the highest wicket-taker in the format.

The decision to rename the 'B' Block of Eden Gardens in her honor underscores the CAB's commitment to promoting women's cricket, a vision that Goswami acknowledges as pivotal. "A dedicated stand is a huge, significant honor, and it's only possible because of the CAB's vision to promote women's cricket. Words can't do justice to this recognition," she added.

The stand dedicated to Goswami is not just a personal accolade but also a symbol of inspiration for aspiring cricketers, especially women, who dream of making a mark on the international stage. As one of the most revered figures in women's cricket, Goswami's legacy will now be permanently etched in the annals of Eden Gardens, a venue that has witnessed numerous historic cricketing moments.

As the world anticipates this unveiling, it serves as a reminder of the strides that women's cricket continues to make, breaking barriers and setting new benchmarks. The tribute to Goswami at such a prestigious venue highlights the growing recognition and respect for women's contributions to the sport, promising to inspire future generations.
