Anil Kumble Identifies Key Challenge for Sanju Samson in International Cricket
Former Indian cricketing legend, Anil Kumble, has pinpointed the primary obstacle facing Sanju Samson in his international cricket career. Samson, a right-handed batsman, is set to open for India in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, with the team currently in the Rainbow Nation for a four-match series under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav.
Despite a recent century against Bangladesh that marked a return to form after a pair of ducks in Sri Lanka, Samson has struggled with consistency since his debut in 2015. Kumble, speaking on JioCinema, emphasized this issue, stating, "There have been talks about keeping him in the team, and his recent hundred against Bangladesh will certainly help. We know his ability as a batter, and he is a class act." The former captain suggested that giving Samson a chance in the top order could be the key to unlocking his talent.
"Consistency is a big issue with him, and I think the selection committee is aware of this concern," Kumble continued. "Placing him in the top order and making him bat as an opener or giving him a chance at number three or four is the right approach. You can maximize his potential. He has got plenty of time against the pacers and can be devastating in front of the spinners."
The series against South Africa will be a crucial test for Samson, with matches scheduled for November 8, 10, 13, and 15. The opening match will be at the Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban. It remains to be seen how Samson handles the pressure in these four crucial matches.
