Zalmi shatter record books as they inflict Karachi with the biggest defeat in PSL history

by mishaalmubarak

Peshawar Zalmi were operating on a different plane when they faced Karachi Kings at the latter’s home venue on Thursday.

Biggest win in PSL

They notched up a first-innings total of 246, which is the highest total ever accumulated by Zalmi and the venue’s biggest target, surpassing Islamabad United’s 238/3 scored in 2019.

Overall, it was the sixth-highest total in PSL history, with Quetta Gladiators’ 263/3 remaining at the top.

Babar Azam and Kusal Mendis were the wreckers-in-chief as they took the bulk of the run-scoring onto themselves.

Babar’s record-breaking innings

Mendis scored the fastest century in PSL by a Zalmi batter, taking 48 balls to do so, while Babar’s 87 off 51 balls saw him breach the 12,000-run mark in T20s, becoming only the second Pakistani to do so

He also became the fastest batter to reach the milestone, going past Chris Gayle, taking just 338 innings.

Babar has also become the first batter to score 500+ boundaries in PSL, with Fakhar Zaman the next player at 421 boundaries.

Both batters stitched a 191-run partnership, the highest in PSL for any wicket. Interestingly, four of the top five partnerships in the league include Babar.

Karachi, meanwhile, lost the game by 159 runs, the heaviest defeat in the league’s history. The home side managed just 87 all out, finishing the game with 23 balls to spare.
