Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shardul Thakur Back in Mumbai Squad for Ranji Trophy Quarterfinals

by K D Mishra

After a long injury layoff, Shardul Thakur will lead Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Karnataka, with Yashasvi Jaiswal named in the 16-man squad. Jaiswal had missed the last two matches of the group stage but had informed the Mumbai Cricket Association that he would be available for the knockout stages, and he was included in the squad by the Sanjay Patil-led selection committee.

Mumbai's fast bowling attack looks very strong, with Tushar Deshpande, Omkar Tarmale and Mohit Avasthi, and with Thakur returning from injury, it will give Mumbai's fast bowling attack even more strength.

Mumbai will play at home. The batting side will be led by Siddhesh Lad, who has been the leading run-scorer this season with 737 runs in nine innings (five hundreds), and will be well supported by Sarfaraz Khan, Musheer Khan and Jaiswal.

Jaiswal had a very long term absence from cricket this season because of playing for India and also had to withdraw from the start of the Vijay Hazare Trophy due to a very serious bout of acute gastroenteritis. The Wankhede Stadium will be hosting T20 World Cup matches starting on February 7 and the quarterfinal will be played at the MCA-BKC ground between February 6-10.
