WPL Points Table: RCB Tops After High-Scoring Victory Over Gujarat Giants

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 began with an exciting high-scoring match at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium. Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced Gujarat Giants in the season opener.
The star Wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh’s explosive 64 off 27 balls and Ellyse Perry’s 57 off 34 balls helped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to a successful run chase of 202 against the Gujarat Titans in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 opener. With this win, RCB became the first team in WPL history to chase down a 200-plus target.
RCB pulled off an incredible comeback after a shaky start, finding themselves at 14 for 2 in the second over. Ashleigh Gardner dismissed both openers Smriti Mandhana for 9 and Danny Wyatt for 4 within four balls, putting RCB under early pressure.
Ellyse Perry and Raghavi Bist then stepped up to steady the innings, adding 86 runs for the third wicket before Bist fell to star West Indies pacer Deandra Dottin. Perry, who got a life at 19, made the most of that dropped chance. Despite still recovering from a recent hip injury from the Women’s Ashes, Perry scored 50 in just 27 balls.
Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja took control from there. The star wicketkeeper batter Ghosh was dropped on zero, and she punished the bowlers with a quick-fire 23-ball half-century. She and Ahuja hammered the Giant's clueless attack during their 93-run partnership, reducing the target by 64 runs in the last five overs to take RCB to a comfortable win.

Earlier, Gujarat Giants posted a solid total of 201/5, with the help of fifties from skipper Ashleigh Gardner and veteran Beth Mooney. Mooney played well in the innings with a steady 56 off 42 balls, while Gardner scored an amazing knock of 79 in just 37 balls.
After early losses of Laura Wolvaardt and D Hemalatha at 41, Mooney and Gardner put together a 44-run partnership for the third wicket. Mooney fell to a pull shot off leg-spinner Prema Rawat, giving an easy catch to Smriti Mandhana.
Gardner and Deandra Dottin then turned up the heat with a 67-run stand in just over five overs. But despite the Giants’ solid score, RCB’s batting brilliance sealed the game in style.
