WPL 2025 Points Table: Latest Standings After RCB vs MI Clash
On Friday at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, Mumbai Indians defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru by four wickets, handing the defending champions their first loss in the ongoing Women’s Premier League. Youngster G. Kamalini sealed the win with a four through the covers, but it was the standout innings from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scoring 50 off 38 balls, and Amanjot Kaur, who hit 34 off 27 balls, that powered MI to their second win of the season.
Mumbai Indians were chasing 168 when they lost an early wicket as Kim Garth trapped Yastika Bhatia leg-before in the second over. After Nat Sciver-Brunt joined the fray, MI's batters took control, with Sciver-Brunt hitting three consecutive fours off Ekta Bisht in the sixth over.
In an exciting finish, young G. Kamalini sealed the game with a four through the covers. However, the turning point came from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Amanjot Kaur, who scored 50 off 38 balls and 34 off 27 balls respectively.
However, Ekta managed to stem the tide temporarily by dismissing Hayley Matthews. Garth then sent back Sciver-Brunt with a well-pitched delivery that broke her stumps, and Georgia Wareham’s precise legspin removed Amelia Kerr, leaving MI at 82 for 4 at the halfway mark. A steady partnership of 62 runs between Amanjot and Harmanpreet Kaur brought them back into the game. However, Wareham struck again in the 18th over, dismissing both Harmanpreet and Sajeevan Sajana on successive balls, giving RCB a brief hope. Nevertheless, Amanjot and G. Kamalini held their ground, guiding MI to a successful chase and securing a dramatic win.
RCB was sent in to bat first on a pitch where the average first-innings total in the previous season was 152 runs. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Danni Wyatt-Hodge started aggressively, taking on the fiery pace of Shabnim Ismail. However, the South African speedster had the last laugh when Smriti mistimed a pull shot, sending a catch to Yastika behind the stumps.
Mumbai Indians’ pacers made the most of the conditions at Chinnaswamy. Nat Sciver-Brunt dismissed Wyatt-Hodge, who fell into the trap and holed out to Hayley Matthews at short third. Matthews then sent Raghvi Bist back, claiming her sixth wicket of the season as the Uttarakhand batter mistimed a shot to Amelia Kerr at midwicket.
With Sanskriti Gupta removing Kanika Ahuja, RCB was struggling at 57/4 in eight overs. Ellyse Perry steadied the innings with Richa Ghosh, building a crucial 50-run stand, but Amanjot Kaur turned the game by dismissing both Richa and Georgia Wareham in quick succession. Perry’s brilliant knock of 81 off 43 balls kept RCB’s hopes alive, but Amanjot finally removed her in the last over, just after she smashed consecutive boundaries. Unfortunately for RCB, Perry’s best WPL score wasn’t enough to secure a win.
