Women’s T20 World Cup: Pakistan vs South Africa - H2H, Pitch Report & Where to Watch

by mishaalmubarak

Since 2024, Pakistan have played the most against one team, and that will be the side they will face in Birmingham in their second T20 World Cup game.

Team Overview:

Pakistan and South Africa have played six T20Is and seven ODIs since 2024, with the latter dominating the matchup but not in an as absolute fashion as one would expect.

In T20Is, Pakistan managed only two wins as they lost both home and away series 2-1. But for them, what matters is that they have had the taste of victory over South Africa, which could give them the morale they need for the T20 World Cup fixture.

Against India, Pakistan badly lost the plot midway. The bowlers gave them a stable start, and regular inroads kept India at bay. Had it not been for the terrible display of fielding, Pakistan might have halted India for a lower target. But Pakistan can not bank on could-have-beens if they are to survive in the group of death. More so, as they have lost their opening game by a huge margin.

South Africa share the same worries with Pakistan; in fact, it would sting more as they sit below even Pakistan after losing their opening game against Australia. Much like Pakistan, they were also victims of Australia’s spinners, who shared seven wickets between them.

Head-to-Head Matches:

Out of the 27 T20I games both sides played each other in, Pakistan won 12 games while South Africa were the better side in 17. The 27-game tally is the most that Pakistan have played a team in T20Is.

Pitch Report:

In the game between Pakistan and India, the surface at Edgbaston had a little for everyone: spinners, pacers, and batters. The surface was rough but not too much to make life difficult for batters. Before that, the pitches for Bangladesh vs Netherlands and England vs Sri Lanka were also similar. Expect another high-scoring affair with bowlers also finding grip off the surface to their advantage.
