West Indies Thrash Zimbabwe by 107 Runs in T20 World Cup 2026 Super 8 Clash

The West Indies are on a roll and the 2016 champion spirit seems to be back. They are enjoying their cricket at the Wankhede Stadium and remain unbeaten in the tournament. They began their Super 8 campaign with a huge 107-run win over Zimbabwe. Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell played key roles with the bat, setting up a big total. Later, the bowlers dominated and defended one of the highest team scores ever recorded in T20 World Cup history.

Zimbabwe have only themself to blame. They played brilliant all-round cricket to dismantle bigger oppositions in Sri Lanka, but the challenge was always going to be only bigger as they penetrated a group comprising India, South Africa and the Windies. Brad Evans, with a late burst and a record 10th wicket partnership with Richard Ngarava, managed to evade a bigger embarrassment, even though this is a massive defeat for the Chevrons.

The African nation had different conditions to adapt as they were playing a T20I match for the first time in Mumbai, but at this level, you have to turn up and perform. Sikandar Raza opted to bowl first and managed to see the back of Brandon King early as the opener continued to struggle. Shai Hope hit a few glorious strokes, but failed to play a long innings. Hetmyer was put down twice by Tashinga Musekiwa on 9 and 70 as the Guyanese southpaw made the Chevrons pay badly for those lapses on the field.

West Indies Crush Zimbabwe by 107 Runs to Stay Unbeaten in Super 8s

Hettie raced to 50 off just 19 balls - the fastest for the Windies in the T20 WCs and slammed 85 off 34 balls with 7 fours and as many sixes. Powell started slowly, but teed off soon to pummel 59 off 31 balls as the two dashers added 122 runs for the third-wicket. Sherfane Rutherford (31* off 13), Romario Shepherd (21 off 10), and Jason Holder (13 off 4) continued the momentum with lusty cameos and helped the West Indies to 254/6.

Zimbabwe took the beating. Especially, Raza was hit for plenty, 0/52 in his 4 overs. Ngarava and Muzarabani picked up 2 wickets each but failed to stop the run flow. Brad Evans and Dion Myers were also on the receiving end. Graeme Cremer was the best of the lot and also dismissed Hetmyer, finishing with 1/38.

It needed a miracle from Zimbabwe to pull off this record run chase, but they only succumbed under pressure. Matthew Forde started Zimbabwe's downfall in the second over. Akeal Hosein brought his best in the very next over, reducing the opposition to 20/3. There was no coming back from there. Dion Myers looked good for his 15-ball 28, while Raza struggled throughout as he was also battling a hand injury, but managed to score in the 20s.

Gudakesh Motie ran through the middle order with his high-quality spell and finished with 4/28, including a wicket maiden. Hosein finished with 4-1-28-3. Zimbabwe were staring down the barrel at 103/9 at one stage, but Evans' fighting 43 off 21, with 5 sixes and 2 fours, saw him add 44 for the final wicket and take Zimbabwe's total to 147 before being the last man to be dismissed in the 18th over. Forde (2/27) and Holder (1/25) feasted after the spinners ran riot as a supreme performance from the Windies saw them boost a massive net run rate.
