Washout knocks Pakistan out of the Ireland tri-series as the hosts get another lifeline
Pakistan Women have failed to win a single game during the ongoing Ireland tri-series involving Ireland and West Indies alongside them. Having lost two of their fixtures against the other two teams, their second game against West Indies was a washout. With only two points in their kitty, Pakistan are beyond revival. However, their next game against Ireland will decide the winner of the series.
Ireland benefit from Pakistan-West Indies washout
Currently, West Indies top the group with 10 points after winning two out of their four fixtures, with one washout and one loss. Ireland, who have played three games so far, have eight points next to their name after two wins. Another win in the final game against Pakistan could see them dethrone West Indies at the top.
Before the rain forced the game to be abandoned, Pakistan put on a struggling batting display, having lost three wickets inside the powerplay. None of the other batters even crossed 30 runs, with top-scorer Aliya Riaz scoring a 23-ball 24. When rain brought play to a halt for the final time, Pakistan were seven down for just 111 runs in the 17th over.
Pakistan’s games heading into T20 World Cup
Following their final game against Ireland on Thursday, Pakistan will play two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland ahead of the T20 World Cup. They are drawn in the same group in the mega-event as India, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands.
