Vijay Hazare Trophy 2026: Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav & Shivam Dube Participation Dates Announced
India's one-day international vice-captain Shreyas Iyer is set to finally return to competitive cricket action through the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) as the Mumbai batters have been lined up to play for India's domestic side in the remaining league games on January 6 and January 8.
This comes after getting included in India's squad for the three-match one-day international cricket series against New Zealand, set to start on January 11. However, Iyer's return to the international stage awaits final fitness clearance from the BCCI's Centre of Excellence.
VHT 2026: Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav & Shivam Dube Set for Mumbai League Matches on Jan 6 & 8
Together with Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube will also represent Mumbai in these matches. Mumbai are in second place on the Elite Group C table in VHT and are likely to make it to the knockouts in the VHT. Mumbai are set to face Himachal Pradesh on the 6th of January and then Punjab on the 8th of January, respectively.
Shreyas Iyer had not been playing any competitive cricket since October, when the Indian star suffered a spleen laceration along with internal bleeding while fielding during the third match of the ODI series between India and Australia in the Sydney Cricket Ground. He was forced into the hospital due to the injuries that made him miss action for more than two months, during which he could lose almost six kg
A BCCI source told PTI that Iyer had successfully completed his first 50-over Return to Play (RTP) match simulation practice on January 2 at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The second and final RTP test match would be played during Mumbai’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Himachal Pradesh on January 6, where he would get final clearance to play in the New Zealand ODIs. The development regarding him, along with Surya and Dube, joining the Vijay Hazare Trophy followed from a report in The Times of India.
If Iyer manages to win the second RTP series without any problems, then he will return to the Indian team for the series against New Zealand, which commences from January 11. Three ODIs will be followed by five T20 matches from January 11 to January 31. It means that he will not participate in the knockout matches if Mumbai enters the next series. Yashasvi Jaiswal will not participate in the tournament either since he too will be a part of India’s ODI team.
The final two matches of Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare trophy will now include Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who recovered from a stomach infection and took part in their match against Goa on December 31. It's good news for Mumbai.
