Vijay Hazare 2024-25: Shaw Snubbed from Mumbai’s Squad, Rahane Takes Break
The Mumbai Cricket Association has announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25, with Shreyas Iyer to lead the team after their victory in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25.
One of the main talking points of the squad is that Prithvi Shaw was left out. The opening batter was dropped for the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 team but came back for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, but he faced a really bad time throughout the tournament and thus left out of the Vijay Hazare squad.
Prithvi Shaw is out of the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 following his poor form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25, where he managed only 197 runs in 9 matches. Thus, his exclusion has even made it tougher for him to get back into the team.
In addition to Shaw's exclusion, Ajinkya Rahane is also missing the first three games of the tournament because of personal reasons. He has asked for a break and will join the squad later. Seamer Mohit Avasthi is also out of contention because of injury. Shreyas Iyer is the captain for Mumbai in the tournament.
Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer Lead Mumbai's Middle Order
Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has been added to the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25. This tournament will provide him with an excellent opportunity to express himself in 50-over cricket ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Both Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav are likely to feature prominently in the middle order of Mumbai, and the tournament will be useful for them in getting game time and rhythm ahead of the international season. Both players will be keen to make a huge impact on the competition.
Shivam Dube is a new addition to the all-rounded Mumbai squad, alongside fellow all-rounder Suryansh Shedge, who contributed notably to Mumbai's triumph of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 with his match-winning cameo. On the bowling bench, Mohit Avasthi is ruled out by injuries, but Shardul Thakur has been in the 17-member team from Mumbai for the tournament.
