Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Breaks Chris Gayle’s All-Time IPL Sixes Record in Eliminator
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history once again during Rajasthan Royals’ Eliminator match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. The 15-year-old batter broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single IPL season.
Sooryavanshi smashed his 61st six of IPL 2026 and went past Gayle’s tally of 59 sixes from the 2012 season. The young opener continued his fearless batting style and entertained fans with another explosive innings.
The record-breaking moment came in the fourth over against Sakib Hussain. Vaibhav first equalled Gayle’s record with a six over extra cover and then crossed it with another big hit over long-off just a few balls later.
Sakib then tried a short delivery, but the teenager pulled it behind square leg for another six. That shot also brought up his half-century in just 16 balls as Rajasthan Royals raced to 63 without loss in only four overs.

| 1 | Vaibhav Sooryavanshi | 2026 | 61* |
| 2 | Chris Gayle | 2012 | 59 |

| 4 | Chris Gayle | 2013 | 51 |
| 5 | Jos Buttler | 2022 | 45 |
Sunrisers Hyderabad had entered the game with clear plans to stop the youngster. Captain Pat Cummins started with yorkers and attacking field placements to stop Vaibhav from freeing his arms early in the innings. Cummins bowled well in the opening over and conceded only a few runs initially. But one slightly fuller ball was enough for Sooryavanshi to send it over mid-off for a huge six.
From there, Rajasthan’s attack became even more dangerous. Eshan Malinga also tried to keep things tight, but a missed yorker turned into a full toss and Sooryavanshi quickly smashed it over backward square leg for another maximum.
Rajasthan Royals reached 20 runs without losing a wicket after just two overs. Sunrisers were already forced to spread the field and use defensive tactics much earlier than expected. When Cummins returned to bowl again, Vaibhav looked completely in control. He smashed boundaries straight down the ground, uppercut a short ball over the infield, and even handled slower deliveries with confidence.
Even after field changes and different bowling plans, Sooryavanshi remained calm and composed. His incredible power-hitting and maturity under pressure once again proved why he has become one of the biggest stars of IPL 2026.
