Uttar Pradesh Association to Refund Tickets After 4th T20I Is Abandoned

by K D Mishra

The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association on Thursday announced that ticket prices for the fourth T20 International between India and South Africa would be fully refunded due to the abandonment of the same because of thick fog at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium here.

The match, which was supposed to start at 7 pm on Wednesday, was finally abandoned at 9:30 pm after the umpires conducted six inspections, as poor visibility brought about by a thick layer of fog and smog made it impossible to play.

"Spectators who booked tickets online will get the refund of the ticket amount through their original mode of payment," UPCA secretary Prem Manohar Gupta said in a release. "Notifications related to refund will be sent on the registered email addresses. Ticket holders are advised to regularly check their emails for further updates."

Fans who purchased tickets offline can collect the refund at the box office at Gate No. 2 of the Ekana International Cricket Stadium on December 20, 21 and 22 between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm. “Offline ticket holders must be present in person and are required to carry their original physical tickets along with a copy of the government ID for verification,” the release said. The ticket holders will also have to provide their bank details as well as fill the refund form at the counter along with the surrendering of the original tickets.

“The refunds will be credited into individual bank accounts directly in accordance with the refund application form details submitted upon successful verification. Refunds will be initiated only after due verification of the submitted documents and information,” it added.

The abandonment has once again called into question the BCCI's scheduling of international fixtures in northern India during peak winter months, a period when fog has repeatedly disrupted matches. The venues allotted for the full series against South Africa included New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, Ranchi, Raipur, Visakhapatnam, Cuttack, Ahmedabad, Guwahati and Kolkata during November and December.
