T Dilip Reappointed as India Fielding Coach for One-Year Tenure Ahead of England Tour
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to bring back T Dilip as fi elding coach. His contract had ended last month and initially, the board chose not to renew it. Dilip first joined the Indian team at the end of 2021 during Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach. His original stint came to an end after Dravid stepped down following India’s win in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The Gautam Gambhir-led management has decided to stick with T Dilip as India’s fielding coach, handing him a fresh one-year contract. Although reports in April suggested that the BCCI didn’t plan to continue with him, things have changed. After nearly two months of searching for a foreign replacement, the board has opted to bring Dilip back.
“We have decided to reappoint Dilip for a year and he will be travelling with the Indian team for England. His contract so far is for one year,” a BCCI source told The Indian Express.
Slip Catching Crucial in English Conditions
T Dilip’s return as India’s fielding coach comes at the right time with a big Test series in England ahead. Slip catching will be very important in those conditions and under Dilip, India’s fielding has really improved. He became well-known during the 2023 OD I World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup for giving out be st fielder awards after every match. It brought excitement and pride to fi elding. Even Ravichandran Ashwin praised him for making close-in fielding better, especially in tough spots like short-leg and said players like Ja iswal have stepped up thanks to Dilip’s guidance.
The BCCI had looked for a foreign fielding coach at first, but after two months, they chose to bring Dilip back and it looks like a smart call. Players like KL Rahul, Shubman Gill and Ja iswal have been doing a great job in the slips and Dilip’s experience will help them stay sharp. His strong bond with the team and eye for detail will be a big boost in English conditions, where even one missed catch can make a big difference in a Test match.
