Sunil Gavaskar Suggests New Captain for Australia Series if Rohit Sharma Absent

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has recommended appointing a new captain for the entire Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia if Rohit Sharma is unable to participate in the first couple of Tests. With doubts surrounding Rohit's availability for the opening Test in Perth due to personal reasons, Gavaskar emphasizes the importance of having a unified leadership amidst India's recent 0-3 series defeat against New Zealand. He proposes that if Rohit misses the initial Tests, the vice-captain, Jasprit Bumrah, should lead the team for the entire series.
Gavaskar expressed, "If you have to rest or deal with personal reasons, it's understandable. However, if you're missing a significant portion of the matches, it would be better to join the tour solely as a player. Let the vice-captain take charge for this series." Emphasizing the need for a cohesive captaincy to rally the team, he stressed the significance of Indian cricket's unity in the wake of recent setbacks.
