Steve Smith's Injury Setback Disrupts Australia's Test Tour Plans for Sri LankaAccording to the reports from Cricket Australia(CA), The star batter from Australia Steve Smith has suffered an elbow injury but Smith is expected to join the pre-tour camp in Dubai after this week. 

On Friday, in the Big Bash League Smith was injured while fielding for the Sydney Sixers. In that match, Smith was seen wearing the elbow brace on his right hand. In 2019 he was operated on to his right hand with the same issue. 

Steve Smith was the stand-in captain for the Sri Lanka tour and Travis Head was the vice-captain for the Australia team. The Australian team reached Dubai on Sunday. Despite Smith's injury, he is preparing to join the Test squad in Dubai after Smith is set to consult a specialist doctor to be further informed about the latest departure date. 

Also, the Australian left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann injured his right thumb while playing in the Big Bash League and he was recovering from his injury. if he becomes fit from his injury Matthew will travel to Sri Lanka to join with squad. 

Cricket Australia said "that left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann is recovering after surgery on his fractured thumb suffered while playing in the Big Bash League (BBL), while regular skipper Pat Cummins's recovery from left ankle soreness will continue to be monitored following specialist advice." 

"The NSP will continue to monitor Cummins' recovery leading into the Champion's Trophy," Source added.

Kuhnemann was a very important spinner for the Sri Lanka tour. In 2023, He made his mark in the Test series against India with his brilliant spin bowling he took taken five-wicket haul against India and also he performed very well in the Sheffield Shield for Tasmania. That performance earned him a spot back in the Australian Test team.

Australia announced the Champions Trophy squad and the iconic captain Cummins will lead the Australian team. Due to the high workloads during the Test summer, Cummins is recovering from the left ankle soreness. Also, Cummins opted out of the Sri Lanka tour because of his second childbirth.
