Steve Smith Slams Joint Second-Fastest BBL Hundred, Hits Four Sixes in One Over

by K D Mishra

Australian cricketer Steve Smith hit the second-fastest century in the Big Bash League history on Friday while playing the league phase match between the Sydney Sixers and the Sydney Thunder.

He brought up his hundred off 41 balls, and his innings was dotted with five fours and nine sixes. Four of these sixes were hit off four consecutive balls in the 12th over. However, the Australian international couldn’t resist hitting 30 runs off the 32nd over bowled by Ryan Hadley, in which Smith managed to hit four sixes in a row, and also hit a four in the over.

Hadley’s over was the first of the two Power Surges in the innings where the team’s field is restricted to a maximum of two fieldsmen inside the 30-yard circle. Smith scored (100 not out off 42) and was later returned to the out by Tanveer Sangha. The Sixers won against the Thunder by beating them by five wickets with 16 balls remaining.
