Smriti Mandhana Sets Record with Third Straight Half-Century Against West Indies

by Prakash Reddy V

The Indian star batter Smriti Mandhana reached another milestone as she became the batter with the most 50+ scores in women's T20Is. The Indian opener is in great form and scored her third consecutive half-century of the series in the decider against West Indies at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. This was her 30th career half-century, moving her past New Zealand's Suzie Bates, who had 28 half-centuries and one century in the format.

During her amazing play, Mandhana hit seven boundary shots in a row, which was really great. First, she hit three fours in a row off Chinelle Henry then, she played even better against Deandra Dottin's over, scoring 4, 6, 4, 4. She did well and got to her 50 off just 27 balls, finishing with a stylish four-over midwicket.

Harmanpreet couldn't play in the second and third games of the series, so Mandhana had to take over as the captain. During this series with West Indies, Mandhana obtained more runs than Harmanpreet Kaur's 3,589, making her the top scorer for India in Women's T20Is and ranking her second in the world, just behind Bates, who has 4,584 runs.

Mandhana just scored a hundred runs in her third game against Australia in Perth, and it's very important news. She scored her fourth 100 runs in a One Day International cricket match this year. No other woman has ever hit that many in a single year before. She even passed Mithali Raj, becoming the leading Indian woman to score the most hundreds in 50-over games. She's changing how people understand the past for women's ODI cricket today.
