Sialkot Stallionz sign Steve Smith for PSL 11

by mishaalmubarak

The newest Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, Sialkot Stallionz, has signed Australian batter Steve Smith ahead of their inaugural season.

Smith’s first time in PSL

Smith, who has played in several franchise leagues around the world, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), The Hundred, Major League Cricket (MLC), and the Big Bash League (BBL), among others, will be part of the PSL for the first time.

The announcement was made through the franchise’s social media handle, confirming earlier reports of talks with the Australian batter. Smith comes off a stellar BBL season, where he averaged 59.80 and struck at 167.97, including one hundred and two fifties. He played a major role in helping Sydney Sixers reach the final.

Smith will be coached by his former teammate Tim Paine at Stallionz. There are also unverified reports that the franchise is looking to rope in Glenn Maxwell.

Landmark changes for PSL 11

Besides Stallionz, the other new franchise, Hyderabad, was also allowed by the PCB to nominate their retentions before February 6, unlike the existing six franchises, who are due to submit their retentions today. All franchises were also allowed to directly sign one foreign player who was not part of the previous edition of the league.

The upcoming PSL will begin on March 26, though plenty remains to be done before that. For one, PCB has to auction Multan Sultans before the player auction on February 11.
