Shubman Gill Out of First Two T20Is vs South Africa, Set to Return Later in the Series: Reports
There is still doubt about whether Shubman Gill will be fit for the five-match T20I series against South Africa, which starts on December 9. Gill, who is the captain of India in Tests and ODIs, will go to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for a medical check-up after his neck injury.
Shubman Gill Expected to Miss First Two T20Is vs South Africa
He is not part of the ongoing ODI series against South Africa. Gill got a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata and was taken to the hospital. He later missed the second Test. He took physiotherapy in Mumbai and was told to rest before starting his recovery.
Shubman Gill has not played since Day 2 of the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He faced only three balls before a neck spasm forced him to retire hurt. Because Gill is not available, KL Rahul is leading India in the three-match ODI series. Shreyas Iyer is also out as he is recovering from a spleen injury he suffered while fielding in Australia. Bowling coach Morne Morkel said that Iyer has started his rehab.
India won the first match by 17 runs in a high-scoring game in Ranchi. Virat Kohli scored a hundred, and Rohit Sharma hit a half-century. The second ODI will be played on Wednesday, December 3, at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur.
Shubman Gill’s fitness will be checked in the next couple of days before India picks the squad for the five-match T20I series against South Africa.
Subhayan Chakraborty said,
“Gill is very likely for the last 3 T20Is. The first 2 T20Is depend on his fitness tests today and tomorrow.”
RevSportz said that Gill will almost surely be ready for the last three T20Is. His chances of playing the first two matches depend on how he does in the fitness tests at the Centre of Excellence.
