India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel has given a positive update on Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. Both players, who are captain and vice-captain for the ODI series against South Africa starting in Ranchi on November 30, are still injured. They will not play in any of the three matches.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer Injury Updates Ahead of India vs South Africa ODI Series

Before the first ODI, Morné Morkel spoke to the media and shared some positive news about Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer. He said the latest updates about their recovery are encouraging. "I talked to Shubman two days ago to check on him, and he’s recovering well, which is great to hear," Morkel said.

"Shreyas has also started his rehab, which is really good. We are excited to have them back in the team soon. The important thing is that they are healthy and getting ready to return," he added. Gill got a neck injury during the first Test in Kolkata while playing a sweep against Simon Harmer. This kept him out of both the Test series and the ODIs.

Iyer’s injury was more serious. Earlier this year, while trying to take a diving catch against Australia, he hurt his abdomen, which caused internal bleeding and a spleen injury. He had to undergo surgery in Sydney. His rehab has started, but it will take some time before he can play fully.

Morkel also talked about how well South Africa has been playing after winning the 2-0 Test series against India. "Playing in colored clothes and with a new ball gives a different kind of energy. South Africa is playing well and a confident team like them is always dangerous.

For us, it’s important to start well in the next week or two and forget about the last few weeks," he said. The first ODI of the three-match series will be played in Ranchi on Sunday.
