The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to announce the central contracts for the India Men’s cricket team for the period of 2025-26 around the time of the New Year. The BCCI is set to make a number of changes, including demoting Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

As per Reports, the central contract list will be declared by the BCCI in a day or two. Currently, the domestic season for 2025-26 is still underway, but the board wants to make an early decision in this case. As per norms, these central contracts are normally declared in February or March every year, but were rescheduled in April in the last domestic season and have been advanced in this case by the BCCI, as per Reports.

With Rohit and Virat retiring from Test Cricket, they will be demoted to either A+ or A. Shubman Gill, who was previously playing for Grade A, will now be promoted to play at the highest level. The left-handed batsman was appointed India's new Test and ODI captain last contract cycle. Ravindra Jadeja and Jasprit Bumrah are set to receive demotions. Mohammed Shami and Mukesh Kumar, who play for Bengal, might not receive a central contract from the BCCI for 2025-26. Mohammed Shami last played for Team India in March, while Mukesh's last outing was in July 2024.

Tilak Varma, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel, and Harshit Rana. All of them had the potential and could receive a promotion. All of them have turned out to be 2-format or 3-format cricketers ever since the last contracts were released. All of them, except Tilak, have played test cricket or were picked for the red ball team.
