Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said, it is important that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to join domestic teams in order to regain there form to international test cricket. Speaking on the ICC Review, Shastri pointed out how a brief time in Indian domestic teams at the lower levels will assist the two players boost their form at international red ball cricket.

Shastri said, "If there’s a gap for them, they should go back and play domestic cricket. it's important for them to play with the younger players, especially after playing Test matches for so long.

Even with an undefeated century against Australia, Kohli have scored 190 runs in 5 test matches and also Rohit Sharma average is 6.2 very poor performance. These remarks came after loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Shastri remarked that, Kohli's issue is off-stump and spin. Turning tracks were India’s weaknesses. Shastri suggested, "India has been backed by quality spinners". They can pratice aginst such conditions.

Shastri left with final decision Kohli and Rohit with the comments they had to made the discussion. He stated, “They know how hungry they are,” at the ages of 36 and 38, it makes sense for Kohli and Rohit to reduce their desire to play the game.

Tendulkar’s undoubted impact as the greatest batsman, however, Shastri said, players like him or Brian Lara could serve to help transition the team and guide the younger generation. “Even during the final years of his batting, I am sure Tendulkar was not at his best but he contribute to help the next generation,” Shastri said.

Shastri thinks Kohli is capable of doing the same possibly by mentoring Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, along with Rishabh Pant. “Virat Kohli being an eminent player, he has a lot of lessons to teach to the young players,” he added.
