Shaheen Afridi and two Pakistan players were fined for a Code of Conduct breach in a 2025 Tri-Series match
The Pakistan-South Africa ODI tri-series match in Karachi on Wednesday, February 12, saw heated moments that resulted in fines for three Pakistan players Shaheen Shah Afridi, Saud Shakeel, and Kamran Ghulam. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has penalized three players for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Afridi was fined 25% of his match fee for blocking South African batter Matthew Breetzke on purpose during the 28th over, which caused a heated argument between them. The tension carried over into the next over when South Africa's captain, Temba Bavuma, got run out after a mix-up with Breetzke. As Bavuma left the field, Shakeel and Ghulam celebrated too aggressively in his face, which led to both of them being fined 10% of their match fees. All three players also received one demerit point each. Since they accepted the penalties, no formal hearings were needed.

Pakistan gave an incredible performance when it counted. South Africa set a big target of 352/5 in 50 overs, but Pakistan responded with an amazing batting display. Captain Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha led the way, each scoring centuries and guiding Pakistan to victory in just 49 overs. Their brilliant effort secured Pakistan’s place in the final against New Zealand on Friday, February 14.

"For the first time, Matthew didn't say anything. I kept teasing him to get a wicket. Whatever happened on the field stayed there. However, after the match, Matthew and I met, shook hands, and became good friends." Afridi said with Cricket Pakistan.
