''Score a Hundred, and the Doors Open'': Kohli’s Inspiring Advice to Aspiring Cricketer
Virat Kohli was the centre of attention at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, just ahead of Delhi's home game in the Ranji Trophy against Railways, which starts on January 30. In the team's practice session, a young visitor had a simple question for the former India captain.
"What do you need to do to become an Indian cricketer?" asked the child, the son of Kohli's childhood friend, who had brought him along to the session.
"It needs a lot of hard work. You shouldn’t be reminded to practice by your father. Get up in the morning and start training. If someone practices for an hour, you should give two hours," Kohli replied.
"There’s only one way. If someone scores a fifty, you aim for a hundred. If hundred, then go for a double century. Always aim to surpass the benchmark. You should never be reminded of all this, it should come from you," he added.
Virat Kohli will play for the first time in the Ranji Trophy since 2012, having missed the last match for Delhi against Saurashtra due to a neck sprain. His return to domestic cricket is at a difficult time in his red-ball career. He just scored 191 runs in nine innings in India's five-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia as the series ended India 1-3 down.
Kohli's form has been raising a lot of questions lately as most of his dismissals came off deliveries way outside the off-stump, and this has been there throughout the series, which brought up the issue of his future in Test cricket.
Despite everything, Kohli's return to domestic cricket is a wonderful opportunity for the kohli to recapture his form and confidence. In the Delhi team, his depth of experience and leadership will be valuable resources as they approach their next game against Railways.
