Rohit Sharma Injury Update: MI Star Likely to Return vs LSG in IPL 2026 Match 47

After an exciting week in the Indian Premier League 2026, the tournament is nearing its final stage. In Match 47, Mumbai Indians will face Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Although both teams will be coming off losses in their respective previous fixtures, the home team is likely to be boasted by the return of their former skipper Rohit Sharma. The 38-year-old, who featured in MI’s first four games, was then ruled out thereafter due to a hamstring injury.
But ahead of their game against LSG, Rohit was seen hitting the nets while there was no scheduled practice session for the side. He was also involved in an incident which saw one of his shots hit ground staff.
Rohit Sharma Set for Possible Return as MI Aim to Bounce Back Against LSG
Soon after the incident, the former skipper rushed in to provide first aid to the ground staff, even as team management asked him to continue batting. This wasn’t the first such moment in cricket, as similar instances have occurred before. Recently, a fan was also struck in the face during a Punjab Kings match.
Speaking after the incident, the ground staff, recognised by the name Siban Biswas told Mid-Day, “When Rohit Sharma sir told us to remove the off-side net, we did so and stood at the side. Just then, while I was wrapping the ripe and not paying attention to the players nearby, the ball hit me on my left knee. Rohit sir immediately came and inquired about the injury, but I told him to continue batting and not to bother. Yet, he returned with an ice pack and also sent someone to give me some medicine and a spray to put on my leg.“
While the 27-year-old struggled with pain, he was joyous of the opportunity to shake hands with the veteran batter. “It was mixed feelings… though my knee was in pain, but at the same time, it feels good because I got to handshake with Rohit sir,” he further exclaimed.
While Mumbai Indians are yet to confirm Rohit Sharma’s return, the franchise shared glimpses of his training sessions on X. The 38-year-old has scored 137 runs in 4 innings at an average of 45.67 and a strike rate of 165.06. His return could be crucial for the team’s fortunes going forward. But recent reports have claimed that Rohit Sharma will himself decide his availability for tonight’s game, where MI will be eyeing to return to wining ways with only five league stage fixtures left for them.
