Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli Miss Out as BCCI Names India A Squad for Australia A Series

The BCCI has named the India A team for the three-match one-day series against Australia A in Kanpur. Earlier, there were talks that Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might play, but they won’t be part of this series. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have already retired from Test and T20I cricket, haven’t played for India since March. Their last proper match was in early June. Around two weeks back, both went through fitness tests and there were talks that they might use this series to get ready for the India vs Australia ODIs in October.

Rajat Patidar and Tilak Varma have been picked as captains for India A in the three-match one-day series against Australia A, starting September 30 in Kanpur. Patidar will lead the team in the first game at Green Park Stadium and then Tilak will captain the side in the next two matches on October 3 and5 with Patidar acting as his vice-captain.

For the first match, Patidar will lead a squad that includes Prabhsimran Singh, Abhishek Porel, Riyan Parag, Ayush Badoni and others. After the Asia Cup ends on September 28, Tilak Varma will join for the last two games. The team will also have Abhishek Sharma, plus fast bowlers Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh, while most of the first-match players stay in the squad.

India A will be playing a one-day match after more than two years, their last one being the ACC Emerging Cup 2023 final where they lost to Pakistan Shaheens. Abhishek Sharma, Nishant Sindhu, Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana were part of that side too.
