Congratulations on a brilliant career 👏 pic.twitter.com/UHWAFmMwC0
He made his debut in November 2011 against West Indies. In his career, he took 537 wickets in the 106 test matches he played. He is only behind Anil Kumble (619) in no. of test wickets.
He has also performed well in his limited cricket career, playing 116 ODIs and 65 T20Is for India and has dismissed 156 and 72 batters, respectively.
He also holds the record for most no. of five-wicket hauls, 37, in his career. He also won the most numbers of the man of the series award,11, same as Murlidharan. He also holds the best bowling strike rate, 50.7.
Ashwin, in the press conference, said
“This will be my last year as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level. I do feel there's a bit of punch left in me as a cricketer, but I would like to expose and probably showcase that in club-level cricket.
“But this will be the last day, and I've had a lot of fun. I must say I've created a lot of memories alongside Rohit and several of my other teammates, even though I've lost some of them over the last few years. We are the last bunch of OGs, if you can say, that are left out of the dressing room, and I would be marking this as my date of having played at this level.”
“Obviously, there are a lot of people to thank, but I would be failing in my duties if I didn't thank the BCCI and fellow teammates, several of them I want to name, and all the coaches who've been part of the journey. Most importantly, Rohit, who has taken those printed catches around the back to give me the number of wickets I've managed to get over the years.”
After Ashwin Rohit answered the journalist's question, we should respect his decision and discuss why he made it.

Before that, Ashwin was seen crying in his eyes while Virat hugged him in the dressing room. After these visuals, the chatters came out in the cricket fraternity about his potential retirement, which happened minutes after.
