Rahul Dravid has ended his association with Rajasthan Royals. The Jaipur-based team announced on X on Saturday (August 30) that Dravid has stepped down from his role after just one season.

Dravid, who had earlier played 46 IPL matches for Rajasthan Royals, took charge as head coach last year after finishing his stint with the Indian team. However, in the 2025 season of the IPL, the team could not perform as expected under his guidance.

Under his guidance, RR could only manage to win four out of 14 matches, and they finished ninth in the league table. “Your presence in Pink inspired both the young and the seasoned. Forever a Royal. Forever grateful," Rajasthan Royals captioned the farewell post for Dravid.

“Rajasthan Royals today announced that head coach Rahul Dravid will conclude his tenure with the franchise ahead of IPL 2026. Rahul has been central to the Royals’ journey for many years. His leadership has influenced a generation of players, instilled strong values within the squad, and left an indelible mark on the culture of the franchise," the franchise stated in a post on social media.

“As part of the franchise structural review, Rahul had been offered a broader position at the franchise, but has chosen not to take this. The Rajasthan Royals, its players, and millions of fans worldwide extend heartfelt thanks to Rahul for his remarkable service to the franchise," the statement added.

Dravid, Pandit Step Down as IPL Coaches Ahead of 2026 Mega Auction

Rahul Dravid has become the second head coach to step down from an IPL team before the IPL 2026 mega auction. Just last month, Kolkata Knight Riders also said goodbye to their head coach, Chandrakant Pandit.

Pandit had taken charge of KKR in 2023 and even guided the team to an IPL title in 2024. With that win, he became only the second Indian coach, after Ashish Nehra, to lift the IPL trophy.
