"Kohli vs Babar? It’s Funny to Me": Mohammad Amir

by William Campbell

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir said comparing Virat Kohli with Babar Azam or any other player is laughable. Ever since Babar broke a couple of Virat Kohli's records fans in Pakistan had begun comparing Babar with the Indian great regularly. However, Amir said that these comparisons are exerting unnecessary pressure on the Pakistani batter, which could have been one of the reasons for his recent failures in form. Recently, Amir said of Kohli that he was 'incomparable' and was a player who made match-winning contributions in all formats of the game.

"Virat Kohli is the greatest player of this generation. I laugh when comparisons are made between him and Babar Azam, Steve Smith, or Joe Root. We cannot compare Virat Kohli to anyone because he has won so many matches for India, which seems impossible for any one player. Not just in one format, but in all three formats, Virat is the greatest batsman of this generation," Amir said on the Cricket Predicta Show.

Amir was able to dismiss Kohli for just 5 runs (9 balls) in the 2017 Champions Trophy final when Kohli's flick shot produced a leading edge that was caught by Shadab Khan at point. This pivotal wicket contributed to India’s collapse, as they were all out for 158 in their chase of 339, ultimately losing their chance to defend the Champions Trophy title.

Kohli's Struggles Continue After Perth Century in Test Cricket

On the other hand, Kohli has bеen struggling with poor form in Test cricket for a long time and continues to score low after his much-awaited century in Perth. The India star is keen to regain his form as India looks to take the lead in the ongoing sеries against Australia, which is currently tied at 1-1.

Continuing his discussion, the formеr fast bowler said how Virat Kohli madе an incredible comeback after his tough tour to England in 2014. Amir also spoke about their on-field encounters, mentioning that his wicket of Kohli in the 2017 Champions Trophy final was a crucial moment in Pakistan's victory in that tournament.

"Virat Kohli’s work ethic sets him apart from all players. After his bad phase in England in 2014, the way he made a comeback and then consistently performed brilliantly for the next 10 years was no ordinary feat. His wicket in the 2017 Champions Trophy final was very important for us, which helped us win the final. If Virat had not been dismissed, we would have lost the final because we all know how exceptional Virat’s record is while chasing runs," Amir added.
