"England's Challenge: Shastri's Advice After ICC's Punishment in Lord's Test"

by Staff Writer

Ravi Shastri, the former Indian cricketer, has weighed in on the recent decision by the ICC to penalize England's cricket team following their victory at Lord's. Shastri emphasized that focusing on winning matches is the key for Ben Stokes' team to recover from their loss of points. The ICC has imposed a fine of 10 percent of England's match fee and deducted two points from their World Test Championship tally. This deduction has caused England's points to drop from 24 to 22 out of 36, reducing their points percentage from 66.67 percent to 61.11 percent. As a result, England has slipped from second to third place in the World Test Championship standings, with Sri Lanka now ahead of them and Australia leading the pack.

Shastri highlighted the importance of winning, stating that England has numerous matches ahead to make up for the lost points. He pointed out that Australia had faced a similar situation in the 2019-21 WTC cycle, losing four points for a slow over rate in the 2020 Boxing Day Test against India. This cost Australia a place in the final, with New Zealand taking the spot instead. England must be cautious and focus on winning to avoid a similar fate.

Shastri advised, "You have to think about winning instead of worrying about the over rate. If you focus on winning, you can try to regain those two points in the remaining six months of the ongoing WTC cycle. But winning is the most important thing. If you keep winning, nothing else matters."
