"Don't Depend on Bumrah": Ricky Ponting Analyzes Rohit Sharma's Viral Team Discussion

by UMMADI JAYA

Australia's tailenders really fought hard against India on day 4 of the 4th test in Melbourne. They started from 91/6, but in a way with Pat Cummins leading the way, they pushed their lead to 333. This made Rohit Sharma, the captain of India very sad. You could see his getting very angry with two of his pacers, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep. His anger showed the most when he had a serious talk with them during a drinks break. Clearly, seeing Australia's tailenders resisting so strongly didn't make him happy at all.

During the match, Ricky Ponting, a former captain of Australia who was commentating, saw Rohit Sharma speaking during the drinks break before tea. Ponting thought Rohit was speaking to Akash Deep and Siraj, right after Bumrah was almost done with his spell. Ponting described the scene, explaining Rohit Sharma seemed really into it. Sharma looked as though he was telling them, 'It's time for you, don't just stay back with Bumrah and look. I need you to step up and do a good job.' Ponting believed Rohit was trying to convey his message in a very expressive manner.

Jasprit Bumrah, at 31 took 4 wickets for 56 runs in 24 overs and was the main reason India did so well. Bumrah took down the Australian middle order, adding 29 wickets to his total for the series. Bumrah crossed the 200 Test wickets mark and out of all 85 bowlers who reached that, he has the lowest average, which is extremely impressive at 19.45.

Siraj also contributed with 3 wickets for 66 runs and Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar picked up a wicket each.

South Africa secured their spot for the 2025 World Test Championship final after a very close 2-wicket win against Pakistan in Centurion on Sunday. Now, India and Australia are trying very hard to take the next place in the Championship.
