"Ashwin Was Insulted" Manoj Tiwary Criticizes Indian Team Management

by UMMADI JAYA

Manoj Tiwary, former cricketer for India and was a captain for Bengal, said in an interview with the Press Trust of India that the Indian team's leaders were not kind to Ravichandran Ashwin when they were in Australia. Tiwary believes that being unkind to Ashwin may have contributed to Ashwin deciding to stop playing international cricket.

In a recent discussion, Tiwary called out Gautam Gambhir the head coach and labeled him a hypocrite. He pointed out that Gambhir doesn't really follow his own advice. The person who used to play for Kolkata Knight Riders had already shared some harsh words about Gambhir before. When discussing Ashwin, Tiwary, who played cricket for Bengal, felt unhappy about the manner the Indian team's leaders didn't treat the experienced spinner right. He pointed out how it wasn't wonderful for the team to keep introducing new spinners for matches in India even though Ashwin was still around.

Tiwary tolds to PTI, saying, Ashwin's retire was really not fair. Why would you bring Washington Sundar into a home series where you already have Ashwin, Jadeja, and Kuldeep ready to play? Sundar and Tanush Kotian are good spinners and they've shown their skills in first class cricket but Ashwin is on an entire other level. It doesn't make sense to make Washington bowl more overs than Ashwin. Isn't that an insult to Ashwin?

After playing just one game the Pink Ball Test in the first three of the 2024/25 BGT series, Ravichandran Ashwin said he's going to retire in the middle of the tournament during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Ashwin shared this news in a press meet with Rohit Sharma following the Brisbane Test. The man mentioned going back home and that he won't play the last two games of the series.

Manoj Tiwary mentioned, "he's a modest person, so he just carry on but playing after giving so many match winning performances. Definitely, one day he will talk and tell us about his experiences. Treating things this manner is not good. Players should command respect, recognition and some applause" he said.

Tiwary said that even before the Australia tour began, he already saw the dressing room conflict coming. He blamed team leader Rohit Sharma and coach Gambhir for not agreeing. He said their clash was all over the news because secrets from the dressing room were being revealed during the trip.

Tiwary mentioned that the entire team, including Jacques Kallis, Sunil Narine, and himself, played a large part in winning the titles for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL but it seems all the credit goes to Gambhir. He then noted how the major wins were a team effort and not only because of one person. It wasn't simply Gambhir who led KKR to their victories.

The entire success involved all of us. Yet, what do you see? There's a whole publicity campaign happening that makes it look as though he's the only one who did anything, Tiwary expressed his point by stating it wasn't simply about Gambhir's efforts.
