Punjab Kings Asia Cup 2025 Social Media Post Draws Attention Amid Political Tensions
IPL team Punjab Kings is getting attention after they shared a social media post for the Asia Cup 2025 match between India and Pakistan, but they left out Pakistan’s name and logo. The two teams will play on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Punjab Kings’ post said, “Game 2 for the defending champions. Let’s goooo #AsiaCup2025 #INDv,” without mentioning Pakistan.
The graphic showed the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) logo and a “vs” sign, but the space for Pakistan’s logo was empty. This happened at a time of political tension after the Pahalgam terror attack in April and there has been a lot of debate in India about playing sports against Pakistan. India does not play regular cricket matches with Pakistan and only meets them in tournaments like the Asia Cup, T20 World Cup, ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy.
This is not the first time an India-Pakistan match has caused controversy. Recently, in the second World Championship of Legends (WCL), the India Champions refused to play against Pakistan in both the league match and the semifinal, saying tensions between the two countries were too high.
Many former Indian cricketers have often called for boycotting matches against Pakistan in different forums. On the field, India comes into Sunday’s game after an impressive nine-wicket win over the UAE in their first match. The Men in Blue bowled out UAE for just 57 runs and reached the target in only 4.3 overs. Pakistan will start their tournament against Oman on Friday at the same stadium.
In T20 internationals, India and Pakistan have faced each other 13 times with India winning 10 of those matches. Their latest meeting was on February 23 during the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, where India won by six wickets.
