PSL Technical Committee turns down Fakhar Zaman’s appeal against two-match ban
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) Technical Committee has dismissed Fakhar Zaman’s request to review his two-match ban, imposed by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama. Zaman will sit out the next two games for Lahore Qalandars after he was found guilty of tampering with the ball during the Lahore vs Karachi game.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the matter was reviewed from the start again on Zaman’s plea, following which the committee upheld the ban.
Committee decision
"The appeal was heard today by the PSL Technical Committee comprising Professor Javed Malik, Dr Mumraiz Naqshband, and Mr Syed Ali Naqi," the PCB's statement read.
"Pursuant to conducting a de novo inquiry, reviewing all evidence, and hearing submissions from relevant individuals, the Committee has dismissed the appeal and upheld the two-match ban imposed by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama," it added.
Background of the case
Fakhar Zaman was earlier charged with a level 3 offence by on-field umpires Shahid Saikat and Faisal Khan Afridi, as well as television umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Tariq Rasheed for ball tampering. After the left-handed batter denied the charges, a full hearing was conducted by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama, during which all the evidence was viewed.
During the hearing, Lahore’s captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, team director Sameen Rana and manager Farooq Anwar were present as well. Mahanama found Zaman guilty of tampering with the ball and banned him for the next two games.
Lahore will play their next game on April 3 against Multan Sultans. With his ban, Fakhar is likely to return to the side on April 11 in Lahore’s fixture versus Peshawar Zalmi.
