PSL 11: crowds allowed for all playoff games, confirms Naqvi

by mishaalmubarak

PSL 11 crowdsPakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has allowed crowds to return for all Pakistan Super League (PSL) playoff-stage games, set to begin on April 28.

All playoff games get crowds

Earlier, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, on the orders of the country’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, had confirmed a return of fans for the final of the league only. However, in the latest development, all the remaining four games will be played in front of fans.

"Just had a meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and I'm pleased to share that we have secured his approval for public attendance in all three PSL playoff matches as well," Naqvi announced via X on Monday.

"However, this comes with an important condition from his side that fans are strongly encouraged to use public transport or minimise fuel consumption while attending the matches, in line with the ongoing national austerity efforts."

Why were the earlier games played without crowds?

The board had earlier decided to host the league behind closed doors in the wake of the escalating Middle East conflict and the consequent fuel shortages. The league was also reduced to two venues instead of six in a bid to conserve fuel.

Franchise owners as well as fans had requested the PCB chairman several times to bring the fans back for the PSL. Naqvi, following the temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States, said he would take a decision after discussing it with PM Sharif.
