Pratika Rawal Set to Receive World Cup Winner’s Medal After Jay Shah’s Intervention

Following Jay Shah's intervention, Pratika Rawal is set to receive the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup winning medal. She herself revealed this. ICC rules state that the World Cup winning medal is awarded only to the 15 players who are part of the squad.
However, in Pratika Rawal's case, the ICC has had to change this rule. Pratika Rawal suffered an injury during the final league stage match against Bangladesh. The injury was so severe that she was forced to withdraw from the tournament.
Shefali Verma replaced her in the squad. Shefali played a crucial role in India's victory by scoring 87 runs in the final. As part of the squad, Shefali received the World Cup winner's medal despite playing only two matches. However, Pratika Rawal, who played a key role in India's victory during the league stage, was denied the medal. Pratika scored over 300 runs, including a century, in the league stage. She formed several crucial partnerships with her fellow opening partner Smriti Mandhana.
When Pratika Rawal didn't receive a medal, fans raised their voices on social media and pressured the ICC to recognize her contribution to India's victory. Now, Pratika Rawal herself has revealed that she is going to receive a medal thanks to Jay Shah's intervention. Pratika Rawal explained that the medal she was photographed with during the Indian team's meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Draupadi Murmu was given to her by a member of the support staff.

Raval also revealed that Shah had already assured her that she would receive a medal, although it might take some time. Jay Shah told us that he was asking the ICC if they could send a medal. It would take some time for it to reach me. So, one of the support staff members gave me his medal to wear for now. Let's just say I have my own medal. So, the medal is on its way," she said.
Pratika Rawal told CNN News 18, "Jay Shah messaged our manager saying he wanted to arrange for Pratika to receive the medal. So, I finally have my own medal. The first time I opened it (the medal given to her by the support staff) and looked at it, tears welled up in my eyes. I'm not a big cryer, but the feeling was real, the feeling of connection."
