PCB to revamp central contracts structure for the upcoming international season
Pakistan Cricket Board is introducing sweeping changes to the central contract framework, which will also make domestic participation mandatory for players.
Five sub-categories to be introduced
As confirmed by the PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the contracts will be divided into two main categories: one for ODI and Test cricket and the other for T20. The details of which, Naqvi said, will be made public on Monday.
Additionally, the new framework will include five sub-categories, with an emerging players category also set to be added.
"If a player does not play domestic cricket, he will not receive a central contract," Naqvi said at a media interaction on Saturday.
"The contract document will be computerised, and no one will have any influence over it. Nobody will be able to say that a player should have been in Category A or Category B," he said.
Fitness and on-field performances to be considered
Previously, Pakistan men's players were assigned one of four tiers: Category A, Category B, Category C, and Category D. While the board increased its centrally contracted players to 30 last year, no player was given a Category A contract.
Besides domestic participation, other factors, including fitness and on-field performances, will also play a crucial role in eligibility for the contracts for all players. The PCB is also expected to increase the match fees to improve the cricketing structure, for both International and domestic, as a whole.
