Pakistan's lead-up to the World Cup marred by rain as West Indies win the Ireland tri-series

by mishaalmubarak

The final game between Pakistan women and Ireland women had plenty riding on it in terms of the tri-series result, but for the former, it was essentially a dead rubber. But even dead rubbers just weeks out from the T20 World Cup can offer a lot. Pakistan lost two of their Ireland tri-series games to the rain, as their last game, before they fly to England for warm-ups, was also abandoned without a ball bowled.

Ireland couldn’t overhaul Windies’ NRR

The washout ended Ireland's chances, and the table toppers West Indies were handed the trophy. Ireland, with two wins that fetched them eight points, had to defeat Pakistan to dethrone West Indies, but a washout meant they could only get a couple of points. While they equalled the table toppers on points, their net run rate was miles behind.

Pakistan, on the other hand, have had a hard time in this series. Not only did they fail to win either of their two completed games, but they also seemed to have lost their winning momentum after defeating Zimbabwe 3-0.

Pakistan have tough times ahead

Their job ahead doesn't get any easier. Drawn in the same 2026 T20 World Cup group as India, Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands, they are likely to have a hard time even surviving the group stages.

Pakistan will play two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Scotland ahead of the T20 World Cup, where they open their campaign against arch-rivals India on June 14.
