Pakistan to tour England for a one-off Test match ahead of Ashes 2027

Pakistan are expected to play a one-off Test match against the England cricket team before the side gears up for The Ashes 2027, according to an English media report. The match is scheduled for May at Old Trafford, which means it will overlap with the Indian Premier League (IPL) window next year.

England to host Pakistan at Old Trafford

The Test is understood to be part of England’s preparation for the Ashes, though it is unlikely to count towards the ICC World Test Championship.

“Next summer, an England Test against Pakistan in late May, at Old Trafford, is currently scheduled during the IPL. That precedes the Ashes, which will begin at Trent Bridge, the most northerly ground of the series,” read the report.

“Trent Bridge has not hosted an Ashes Test since 2015, a match best remembered for Stuart Broad’s extraordinary eight for 15,” it added.

The England and Wales Cricket Board is also considering hosting Pakistan for a five-match Test series starting in the next WTC cycle. The board has reportedly reached out to Pakistan, who have not played a five-match red-ball series since 1992.

England, too, have not faced any team other than India and Australia in such a series since 2009.
