A total of 102 Pakistan players have registered for the upcoming edition of the Lanka Premier League, the league confirmed. The registration window for overseas players opened on May 8 and closed on May 20, with 650 foreign players from all full-member nations applying for the tournament.
Pakistan on top
Among the full-member nations, Pakistan’s 102 registrations are the highest, followed by the West Indies cricket team with 75 applications.
“The highest number of registrations from Full Member nations came from Pakistan, South Africa, the West Indies, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, New Zealand, Australia, and England,” the franchise league said in a statement.
“Among the registrations are 102 players from Pakistan, 75 from the West Indies, 66 from South Africa, 48 from Bangladesh, 41 from New Zealand, 24 from Australia, 15 from England, and 12 from India.”
Additionally, among the associate nations, the United States of America (USA) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) submitted the highest number of registrations.
Draft and League Schedule
Out of the total registrations, only 310 players will be shortlisted for the Players Draft on June 1.
The tournament will run from July 17 to August 8, with five teams competing for the title. The official names and ownership details of each team will be confirmed by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Earlier, Dambulla Sixers signed Pakistan’s top-order batter Sahibzada Farhan as their Icon Player. With the registrations from the country going through the roof, a significant Pakistan presence can be expected this season.
